"Earth"
An award winner at the 2009 Hawai'i Craftsmen annual statewide exhibition,and currently on display at the Hawai'i Wood Guild show at the Issac Art Center, Waimea, this piece is so named because contrary to our common perception our planet is actually a seething, molten blob of rock and metal. The warm glow created by the translucence of this wood adds to the effect. Also the knots on this piece of wood rotted out before turning. I usually replace them or, otherwise fill the holes. In this case I felt the openings added something by providing little windows into the interior of the vase.
