Ralph Michaelis / "Mulango"

Collaborative piece with Elmer Adams. This is the first Mulang wood I've ever seen. Also called Won-lan or Orange Champak, this tree Michelia Champaca is esteemed by Hindu and buddists and is often planted on temple grounds. It was indeed harvested from the grounds of a buddist temple here in Hilo, Hawaii. The tree was HUGE 10-12 feet across at the base. There will be a few more vessels produced from this wood.

Medium: Mulang
